Butaleja Muslim Leaders Pay Tribute to Mufti
Muslim leaders from Butaleja Muslim District, led by Sheikh Abubakar Were, the Education Secretary, paid their respects to His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, at the UMSC headquarters in Old Kampala on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.
The delegation comprised County Sheikhs, Imams, Mosque Chairpersons, Secretaries, opinion leaders, elders, and youth leaders. During their courtesy visit, they expressed their purpose of wanting to meet and converse with the Mufti, tour the UMSC secretariat and the National Mosque, and gain insight into ongoing projects. This initiative aimed to counter negative media campaigns orchestrated by divisive elements in Kampala.
The leaders conveyed deep appreciation to the Mufti and his administration for the significant transformation and developments achieved in the 23 years since he assumed Muslim leadership. Sheikh Abubakar Were stated, “It is truly astonishing to witness what we have seen here, especially in comparison to the misinformation we have been hearing. These falsehoods are propagated by envious, evil-minded, and selfish individuals seeking to gain from what they haven’t accomplished.”
Following a guided tour of the entire UMSC Complex, including offices, hospital, medical bureau, television and radio stations, shopping malls, and developmental programs, Sheikh Were addressed the Mufti.
Mufti Mubaje attributed these achievements to his longstanding good intentions since taking on Muslim leadership. He advised Muslims never to revert to a state of confusion, emphasizing the importance of unity and development.
Hon. Hadji Abbas Ssekyanzi Muluubya, the UMSC Secretary, assured guests that UMSC operates normally and intact under the Mufti’s leadership. Also present were Hon. Counsel Haj Muhammad Ali Aluma, Deputy Secretary General incharge of Finance & Administration, Sheikh Imran Ssali, Secretary for Religious affairs, and Hon. Sinan Abdu Nsenye, the former Finance Secretary.
