Shuura Advisory Council Cautions Muslims Against Rushing to Civil Courts

The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council-UMSC Shuura Advisory Council, headed by Sheikh Abdu Obeid Kamulegeya, the former Chief Kadhi of Uganda has emphasized the importance of adhering to the Shuura process outlined in the UMSC Constitution to address internal disputes before resorting to civil courts. He said this during their inaugural meeting, attended by key UMSC officials led by His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, Hon. Prof Dr. Muhamadi Lubega Kisambira, the UMSC National Chairperson and the UMSC Secretary General, Hon. Hadji Abbas Sekyanzi Muluubya in observer capacities. During the session, concerns were raised regarding a court ruling that led to a warrant for the attachment of prime UMSC property. The Council strongly advised against any actions aiming to auction these properties and urged the Muslim community to maintain composure, steering clear of misinformation disseminated through various media channels. Additionally, they cautioned against responding to individuals attempting to exploit the situation through unconstitutional means.
The council encouraged restraint in participating in fundraising efforts of unclear intent. They also called upon the Ugandan Govt and relevant authorities to honor and uphold the UMSC Constitution, especially in light of recent amendments and the government’s support for the subsequent Muslim General Elections. Moreover, the council expressed discontent with Her Lordship Justice Sharmila Ntambi’s Court Order dated December 12th, 2023, mandating a special General Assembly sitting with undisclosed agenda items, which the Council deemed unnecessary.
