Sheikh Dr. Hafidhu Muhammad Haroon Bukenya was formally installed as the Kadhi of Kayunga Muslim District in a vibrant ceremony held at the main Mosque in Kyerima on Saturday, November 25th, 2023. The installation ceremony was graced by His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda. Representing His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was the Rt Hon. Hajjat Lukia Nakadama Isanga, the 3rd Deputy Prime Minister. Among the dignitaries present were Hon. Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, the Minister of Kampala, Hon. Amos Lugolobi, the State Finance Minister and Area Legislator, as well as members of the UMSC National Management Committee, led by Hadji Abbas Ssekyanzi Muluubya, the UMSC Secretary General. Other attendees included Regional Assistants to the Mufti, Kadhis, County Sheikhs, Mr. Moses Karangwa, the NRM party Chairperson for Kayunga District, local government leaders, and various prominent personalities.
During his address, the Mufti Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje emphasized the importance of righteous deeds in the present era, warning against the consequences of neglecting them, and urged the Muslim community to maintain patience amidst contemporary hardships. Addressing the ongoing media coverage of the judgment involving Justus Kyabahwa’s compensation claim of 18 billion Ugandan Shillings for a land transaction, the Mufti noted that the issue had been politicized by some former UMSC executives, notably Haj Abdul Kiyimba. He clarified that it was this faction that had decided to sell the property in question. The Mufti assured Muslims that no UMSC-owned land would be auctioned and affirmed the council’s capability to address any legitimate debts. Additionally, the Mufti condemned the misconduct of Haj Kiyimba following Friday prayers at the National Mosque, criticizing the police for unprofessionally supporting him despite prior warnings of his potential to cause harm. Sheikh Mubaje called upon the President to intervene in matters concerning citizens’ security. Rt. Hon. Hajjat Lukia Nakadama relayed President Museveni’s message, emphasizing the cooperation between the government and UMSC. President Museveni urged Sheikh Bukenya to promote unity and work for the common good, transcending affiliations, while encouraging participation in government social transformation programs.
Earlier speakers, including Hon. Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, His Eminence Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, and Hon. Hadji Abbas Sekyanzi Muluubya, echoed messages centered on fostering community cooperation.
