UMSC Recovers Prime Properties in Teso, North Eastern Muslim Region.

The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has reclaimed several significant properties in Soroti city in Teso Muslim district.
They include the Main Mosque along with adjacent shops on Soroti Avenue, commercial premises situated on Juma Bhai Road, Okuruti Close, and a cemetery at Muhammedan Road, all within Soroti City. Additionally, properties such as cemeteries in Arapai and Amuria, as well as commercial premises in Kaberamaido, Kalaki, Katakwi, and Swaria Islamic P/ School land, have been successfully recovered. These properties were originally donated to UMSC in the 1970s by the late President Idi Amin during the departure of Asian Muslims. Unfortunately, over the years, they fell into the hands of individuals within the Muslim community who unlawfully claimed ownership. Sheikh Asuman Muhammad Ocen, the Kadhi of Teso Muslim District, presented this report during the weekly management committee meeting chaired by His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, held at the UMSC headquarters in Old Kampala on Thursday, November 16th 2023.
The Mufti expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the current leadership of Teso Muslim District under Sheikh Ocen for their pivotal role in the arduous task of reclaiming these properties from those who wrongfully occupied them. He emphasized that despite this success, there are still numerous properties across the country currently in the wrong hands and urged Muslim leaders in respective areas to follow Teso’s example and secure the return of such properties to the custody of UMSC, now under the newly established Property Trust & Endowment. Present at the meeting were His Eminence Sheikh Abdallah Ibrahim Ssemambo Tamusuza, the Deputy Mufti, His Eminence Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, the 2nd Deputy Mufti, Hon Hadji Abbas Sekyanzi Muluubya, the UMSC Secretary-General, Hon. Counsel Haj Muhammad Ali Aluma, the Acting Deputy Secretary-General in charge of Finance, departmental heads, and Mr. Miro Fakir, Chairman of Teso Muslim District.
