Stop Bickering, Mufti Tells Kaliro Muslim Leaders

The Mufti of Uganda, His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje has urged Muslim leaders in Kaliro district to set aside internal conflicts and focus on fostering unity and Islamic brotherhood for the development of the district. He said this when a delegation from Kaliro Muslim District, part of the Busoga Muslim region paid him a courtesy visit, at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council-UMSC headquarters in Old Kampala on Monday Nov 13, 2023.
Mufti Mubaje noted that Kaliro was the first district created by his administration in 2001, aimed at bringing developmental services closer to the Muslim population. Expressing concern about internal conflicts among the leaders, he urged them to prioritize unity, development initiatives, and to remember their accountability before God. In response to Haj Nkoola Bashir, the leader of the delegation, who lamented about the lack of respect for elders in their leadership, Mufti emphasized the importance of avoiding such attitudes and focusing on uniting the faithful.
“It is really absurd that for past years the leaders of Kaliro have kept on utilizing their useful energies in bickering with each of them thinking that he hasn’t been accorded his desired respect. So, I implore you to be God fearing, avoid such attitude and concentrate more on seeing that you, you unite the faithful and design developmental programs,” he said. He promised the delegation a more organized audience in the future, aligned with the UMSC Constitution and leadership hierarchy, to address pressing issues in their district.
The meeting was attended by His Eminence Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, the 2nd Deputy Mufti, Hon. Haj Abbas Ssekyanzi Muluubya, the newly appointed UMSC Secretary General, Hon. Counsel Haj Muhammad Ali Aluma, the Acting Deputy Secretary-General in charge of Finance, Sheikh Imran Ssali, Secretary for Religious Affairs, and Hon. Sinan Abdu Nsenye, Acting Finance Secretary for Finance and Planning and Hon.Abubaker Were Wadangho, the Acting Chairman, UMSC Electoral Commission. Sheikh Waiswa and Hon. Muluubya stressed the importance of brotherhood, adherence to the constitution, and collective efforts for development.
