UMSC Announces Scholarship Recipients.

The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) Education Secretary, Sheikh Juma Bakhit Cucu, has unveiled the list of 59 successful applicants for scholarships to various countries. Sheikh Cucu explained that out of the 100 applications received, only 59 applicants were able to fulfill the criteria set by the universities offering the scholarships.
He made this announcement during a meeting with the successful applicants at the UMSC headquarters in Old Kampala on November 8th, 2023. Sheikh Cucu also highlighted reasons that prevented some applicants from qualifying, including age requirements, missing passport submissions, and inadequate academic grades.
Additionally, he mentioned that some scholarship opportunities were rejected due to the universities’ inclinations towards promoting behaviors that contravene Islamic values, such as homosexuality. He stated, “We noticed that certain universities required students to tolerate homosexuality tendencies in their prerequisites, which go against our African cultures and values.”
He informed the successful applicants that UMSC had successfully completed the initial steps of applying to universities in the USA, Russia, and Saudi Arabia, as per their online requirements. The subsequent stages, including selection and shortlisting of successful students, will be directly managed by the awarding universities.
Sheikh Cucu encouraged the students to prepare themselves mentally, socially, and spiritually to increase their chances of success. Sheikh Juma Bakhit Cucu urged scholarship beneficiaries to maintain a positive attitude about returning home after completing their studies and using their knowledge to contribute to the development of their communities.
