His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, welcomed delegations of Muslim leaders from various districts at his office in UMSC Headquarters, Old Kampala.

The delegation included leaders from the Kampala region, led by Sheikh Hamid Sserwadda Busungu, the Regional Assistant to the Mufti, and Hon. Haj Muhamood Kateregga Namuguzi, Dr. Kawalya Abdu-Hakim, Counsel Ashiraf Galiwango, Sheikh Muhammad Kawenda, and other members of the General Assembly. Also in attendance were Sheikh Zakiyyu Burhan Sserunjonji, the Kadhi of Nakawa; Sheikh Kassim Ntambi, the Kadhi of Lubaga; Sheikh Ahmad Hudu Galiwango, the Kadhi of Makindye; Sheikh Badru Muwonge, the Kadhi of Kawempe; District Executives; management committee members; youths; and women leaders.

Similar delegations came from Isingiro Muslim District, led by their Kadhi, Sheikh Kassimu Nsamba, along with Hon. Imam Makumbi and other district leaders. Kyenjonjo was represented by an Acting Kadhi.

During the meeting, the visiting leaders presented reports on various activities, including challenges related to resource mobilization, unemployment among women and youth due to a lack of skills, land grabbing, and incomplete projects such as a hospital in Isingiro, schools, mosques, and borehole installations, among others.

In his welcoming speech, Mufti Mubaje provided a brief overview of UMSC’s progress since its establishment in 1972 and the challenges faced before his administration took office in 2000. He emphasized that despite the significant transformation at Old Kampala, discord within the Muslim community had hindered further development. He urged the leaders to take their responsibilities seriously, as they are the shepherds who will be held accountable.

The Mufti encouraged the delegates to focus on teaching and promoting Islam in their respective areas and to mobilize support for various projects. He also stressed the importance of initiating development projects in line with UMSC’s five-year developmental plans for the transformation of the Muslim community at all levels.

The meeting was attended by high-ranking UMSC officials, including His Eminence Sheikh Abdallah Ibrahim Ssemambo Tamusuza, the Deputy Mufti; Hon. Prof. Dr. Muhammadi Lubega, the National Chairperson; Hon. Counsel Haj Muhammad Ali Aluma, the Acting Secretary-General; and departmental heads.
