Mufti Hosts Greater Mpigi Muslim Leaders.
The Mufti of Uganda, His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje has hosted a delegation of Muslim leaders from Greater Mpigi led by their Kadhi Sheikh Muhammad Iddi Kabuye. The delegation included various representatives, such as Hon. Wasswa Hassan Bomboka, a member of the General Assembly, District Executives, management committee members, County Sheikhs, Imams, and women and youth leaders.
Sheikh Kabuye explained that their visit aimed to inform the Mufti about the return of many Muslims to the fold of Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) after being misled by individuals with ungodly and selfish agendas. During their meeting, they presented a report that highlighted several challenges, including the sorry state of infrastructure in Muslim-founded schools, the occupation of lands and mosques by hostile parties, and the need for youth and women’s empowerment, among other issues.
In response, Mufti Mubaje expressed his delight at receiving the delegation from Butambala, an area known for its strong Muslim presence. He recounted his personal vision from over thirty years ago when he was disturbed by the disunity and disputes within the Muslim community, primarily driven by personal gains rather than Islamic principles. “I was disturbed at that time about then endless disputes that raged on between various factions, which were purely based on material gains. There was a lot of disunity. After being appointed Imam of Masqid Noor in Mbale City, by Almighty Allah grace, I successfully managed to cause sanity between the youths and elderly that fostered Muslim brotherhood. I continued with the same spirit when I was later appointed the Kadhi and subsequently I carried that same spirit when I was elected the Mufti of Uganda,” Sheikh Mubaje remarked.
Mufti Mubaje emphasized the importance of unity, love, and solidarity among Muslims, as challenges can be addressed more effectively with these qualities. During the meeting, various achievements and developmental programs within the UMSC structure were discussed. His Eminence Sheikh Abdallah Ibrahim Ssemambo Tamusuza, the Deputy Mufti, Sheikh Imran Ssali, the UMSC Secretary for Religious Affairs, Sheikh Juma Bakhit Cucu, the Education Secretary, and Hon. Sinan Abdu Nsenye, Acting Finance and Planning Secretary, also shared words of wisdom and presented opportunities, such as scholarships and school registration, related to education.
The meeting was attended by other UMSC management and staff members, including Sheikh Ali Juma Shiwuyu, Secretary for Hija & UMRA, Sheikhat Raddiyya Namakula, Secretary for Women & Children’s Affairs, Haj Sulaiman Musana Kawanguzi, Protocol Officer, Mr. Magala Shaban, Transport Officer, and Sulait Madoyi, Security Officer.
