Mufti Commissions Water Pump For Slum Dwellers.

His Eminence Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, the 2nd Deputy Mufti has commissioned a newly built electric power water pump (submersible) for less privileged people in Lwezza Cells in Ndejje Division. Makindye-Sabagabo Municipality in Wakiso district.
The event took place shortly after the Friday congragetional prayers September 22, 2023 at Shazir Luutu memorial Mosque where Sheikh Waiswa represented His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda.
The joyful event was attended by several high profile personalities from the National Management Committee of Uganda Muslim Supreme Council led by Hon. Counsel Haj Muhammad Ali Aluma, the UMSC Secretary General, Sheikh Imran Ssali, Secretary for Religious affairs, Hon. Sinan Abdu Nsenye, Secretary for Finance and Planning, Sheikh Abdul-Karim Abdallah Katamba, Director of Halal, and Mr. Shaban Magala, the Transport officer.
While Sheikh Farouq Ssendijja, the Kadhi of Entebbe Muslim district and Sheikh Ismail Kazibwe, the Makindye County Sheikh led committee members from their respective offices. Present were also local government officials led by Mr. Moses Kanala, the deputy mayor of Makindye Sabagabo Municipality and and Wakiso LC V councilor Hajjat Mariam Nakulima Kaliga.
In his speech, Sheikh Waiswa thanked Hon. Aluma, then Secretary for Social Services for initiating the project when he was approached by the area councillor, Mr. Ahmed Sekyanzi. He connected them to Kerim, an anthropologist and citizen of Holland who banked rolled the project.In a special way, Sheikh Waiswa paid tribute to Mr. Kerim for having a passionate heart to help the vulnerable people in Uganda through his non- profit making Organization, African Development Foundation- ADF. “We are indeed grateful for this project and beseech Almighty Allah to bless him with a fruitful life on earth and hereafter,” Sheikh Waiswa prayed. Turning to the beneficiaries of the project, Sheikh Waiswa urged them to take good care of the water pump and establish a water user committee to manage it so as to serve its intended purpose of providing clean safe water for many years to come. “You need to fix lights for those who will access it at night and remove garbage around the pump to be more user friendly. The water pump is for all people regardless of their religious beliefs, tribes or political affiliation. In fact it is in line with the spirit of the Inter-religious Council of Uganda-IRCU where we all agreed to work together for the common good,” Sheikh Waiswa stated. He ended his remarks by asking the beneficiaries to unite and work hard to alleviate poverty in their midst.
Hon Counsel Haj Muhammad Ali Aluma detailed the background of the project, saying it was approved by the UMSC National Management Committee.
“We developed the idea of rolling out this project soon after the implementation the first project that involved distribution of food packages to over 500 households in the area,” Hon. Aluma disclosed.
On his part Sheikh Farouq Ssendijja presented the state of affairs in Entebbe Muslim District towards development more especially skilling households, youths and women.
While Mr. Kanala Moses, the Deputy Major and Ahmed Sekyanzi, on behalf of Makindye Sabagabo Municipal Council, call for closer Cooperation with UMSC in more pro-people projects more especially in the areas of education and health.
