Mufti Hails Muslim Women Leaders on Activism

His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda has hailed Regional Muslim Women Representatives for being vibrant in mobilizing fellow women towards social transformation programs in their respective areas.
This was part of the Mufti’s brief remarks at the 2nd National General meeting of Regional Muslim Representatives held at the UMSC Headquarters on Thursday, Aug 31, 2023. He particularly expressed gratitude to Hon. Sofia Safinah Kenyangi, the National Chairperson of Muslim Women Council for the effective representation of Muslim Women issues at the different fora and the development, which is taking shape among Muslim women.
“You are now on the right track. You need to fill the gap by intensifying efforts towards resources mobilization alongside identifying developmental partners,” Mufti Mubaje advised. In response to the complaints about two women representatives who have skipped all the meetings that have so far been convened, the Mufti advised the Council to consult the provisions in the UMSC Constitution before making a final decision on their fate.
Lastly, Sheikh Mubaje pledged to avail the women council the necessary support towards their planner programs.
On his part, Hon. Counsel Haj Muhammad Ali Aluma, the UMSC Secretary welcomed the Women’s initiative to form a SACCO to help the Muslim women at the grassroots,” he said. “Your SACCO, youths, and other interested groups, will be incorporated into the bigger UMSC based Majlis SACCO, ” Hon Aluma promised. Adding that “it is our vision to see that there is an improvement in livelihood of our people in terms of household incomes through activities as such as farming, poultry, animal husbandry and small businesses among others,” he said.
The meeting was opened with presentation of reports on activities accomplished by various representatives, which ranged from Holy Quran competitions, seminars on financial literacy, Child up bring, health and home care among many others.The women council endorsed several developmental concepts and work plans such as Activism Against Gender- based violence/ Human rights within the Muslim community, induction on Leadership, Vocational Training & Entrepreneurship, among others.
Present in the meeting were the UMSC departmental heads led by Sheikhat Radhiyya Namakula, the Secretary for Women and Children’s Affairs/Secretary to the Women Council, Sheikh Imran Ssali, the Secretary for Religious Affair, and Sheikh Abdul-Karim Abdallah Katamba, the Director of Halal.
