Mufti returns to Hero’s Welcome after signing historic UMSC, Saudi Cooperation Agreement.

His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, received an overwhelmingly warm reception as he arrived at Entebbe International Airport on Monday morning on June 6th, 2023. Several Muslim leaders gathered at the airport, chanting “Allah is the Greatest,” expressing their excitement and joy following the Mufti’s return from an official visit to the Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, traveling via Egypt Air.

The Mufti was greeted on the Airport tarmac by his deputies Sheikh Abdallah Ibrahim Ssemambo Tamusuza and Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, and Honorable Muhammad Ali Aluma, the UMSC Secretary General. Numerous other leaders, including members of the General Assembly, executive, management, and support staff from UMSC Headquarters, also came to welcome him.

During a brief interview with journalists, Sheikh Mubaje noted that his trip to the Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was a significant milestone. The visit led to the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between UMSC and the Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, fulfilling a dream that had been nurtured for 51 years since the establishment of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council-UMSC in 1972.

Sheikh Mubaje expressed deep gratitude to Almighty Allah for the opportunity to cooperate with the Islamic Ministry of Saudi Arabia. “We express our profound gratitude to Almighty Allah that we  have agreed to cooperate with the  Islamic Ministry of Saudi Arabia following the resolution passed by the Cabinet of Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for a closer working relationship in terms of Islamic Propagation programs, Peace promotion in Communities, Education, Health, Social transformation programs,   streamlining Haj activities and so many others  issues that are bound to be beneficial to Ugandans regardless of their differences,” he said.

The Mufti extended his thanks to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the relevant government authorities for their support in facilitating the agreement. He also expressed gratitude to the Saudi Ambassador accredited to Uganda and Sheikh Abdallah Ibrahim Ssemambo Tamusuza, the Deputy Mufti, for their coordination of the internal activities leading to this significant achievement.

Accompanying the Mufti on this historic trip was Dr. Sheikh Ziyad Swaleh Lubanga, the Director of Sharia.
