Hon. Muhammad Ali Aluma, the Secretary General of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has received a four-member delegation from Agri Trade, an agricultural-based organization focused on marketing Ugandan agricultural products globally. The meeting took place at the Secretary General’s Office at UMSC Headquarters in Old Kampala on Monday.

They were led by Mr. Grant Chiwera, the Chief Executive Officer and included Ms. Peace Kahunde, the Director of Trade Development, Mr. Saad Kalule, the Trade Development Manager, and Mr. Jememiah Mwanja, who is responsible for Membership.

During the meeting, the Agri Trade team shared their organization’s vision with Hon. Aluma. They emphasized their goal of exploring agricultural trade opportunities with the international community to generate foreign earnings and alleviate poverty in local communities. They discussed various strategies, including providing technical advice, mobilizing communities for agriculture production, and mapping agricultural pilot projects for crops such as simsim (sesame) and others.

The team also highlighted their success in securing markets for Ugandan agricultural products in several countries. “We always advise our members that they need to stick to quality standards, profiling their products in order to attract good money. Otherwise, our farmers are losing out because of the quality of their products,” MS Kahunde remarked.

Hon. Aluma, in his welcoming remarks, provided an overview of UMSC and its organizational structure, emphasizing its role in channeling development initiatives to grassroots communities.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize their collaboration. The MoU aims to facilitate the implementation of developmental ideas and ensure their effective dissemination to community members. In attendance was Bun Yasin Ibrahim, a personal assistant to the Hon. Secretary General.
