His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, the 2nd Deputy Mufti of Uganda, has presided over a Quran memorisation graduation ceremony at Isar Primary School in Nsaggu Village, Wakiso Muslim District.
The ceremony marked the first of its kind at the school, which was established by the Türkiye-based Care International Charitable Organisation in partnership with the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation.A total of 36 students graduated after successfully memorising the entire Holy Quran.
Sheikh Bukenya represented the Mufti of Uganda, His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, at the ceremony.
In his address, Sheikh Bukenya commended the organisations behind the school for establishing a modern learning centre that provides a conducive environment for students to learn and memorise the Holy Quran.
He also highlighted teachings from the Holy Quran and the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) on the importance of learning and teaching the Holy Scripture, as well as the spiritual rewards associated with it.
Sheikh Bukenya thanked the parents for enrolling their children at the school and encouraged the graduates to remain disciplined and humble. He urged them to put into practice the teachings of the Quran in their daily lives and communities and to serve as role models to others.
The 2nd Deputy Mufti also expressed appreciation to Care International and other Türkiye-based charitable organisations operating in Uganda for their continued cooperation with the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC).
He commended the organisations for implementing various community development projects, including the construction of boreholes to provide safe water, construction of mosques and Qurban programmes, among other initiatives.
Those who attended the ceremony included Sheikh Juma Bakhit Cucu, UMSC Secretary for Education; Sheikh Jamir Kassim Ntambi, Kadhi of Lubaga Muslim District, Sheikh Abubakar Waiswa, Kadhi of Buyende Muslim District; Sheikh Muhammad Abdu Weli, heads of several Türkiye-based organisations; Hon. Hajjat Naima Gule, Woman Member of Parliament for Yumbe; and other guests.
