The 2nd Deputy Mufti of Uganda, His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, on behalf of the Mufti of Uganda, His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, hosted a seven-member delegation from the Association of Nigerian Students studying in Uganda on Friday evening, August 21, 2026.
The delegation was led by the Association’s President, Mr. Uzairu Salsu, and included Mr. Kamaal Bade, Chairman; Ms. Zainabu Al Hassan, Deputy Senate; Mr. Muhammad Khair, Minister of Sports; Mr. Muhammad Madh, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission; and members Mr. Muhammad Badru and Mr. Salim Badru. The students said the courtesy visit was aimed at familiarising themselves with the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC), its structure and activities as the country’s umbrella Muslim institution.
They also expressed interest in strengthening cooperation with the UMSC, particularly through its youth structures. They cited the forthcoming National Muslim Youth Council Convention scheduled for late October 2026 as an opportunity for engagement.
“It is our humble request that the UMSC Youth Council provides us with a slot to make a presentation on the selected topics during the conference,” Mr. Salsu said.
In his response, Dr. Sheikh Bukenya welcomed the delegation and briefed them on the history, structure and activities of the UMSC, including the role and organisation of its youth structures.The 2nd Deputy Mufti was later joined by Hon. Musitafa Habibu, the National Chairperson of the Muslim Youth Council, who shared updates on preparations for the forthcoming National Muslim Youth Council Convention.
Hon. Habibu and the delegation agreed to hold further engagements in the coming weeks ahead of the convention, with a view to facilitating the students’ full participation in the planned event.
The delegation expressed appreciation to the 2nd Deputy Mufti for receiving them and for the opportunity to explore areas of cooperation with the UMSC.
