UMSC Secretary General Hosts Two Newly Elected MPs

The Secretary General of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC), Hadji Abas Muluubya, on Thursday hosted two newly elected Members of Parliament at the council headquarters in Old Kampala.
The MPs were Hon. Ssewangudde Robert, Member of Parliament representing Persons with Disabilities, and Hon. Jamal Ayagalachi, MP-elect for Bukooli North in Bugiri District. They were accompanied by Hon. Hajjat Aisha Abdu, the North Eastern Regional Muslim Women’s Representative among others.

The delegation met Hadji Abas Muluubya mid-morning at his office on Thursday, March 5, 2026.In his welcoming remarks, Hadji Muluubya shared a brief background of UMSC, highlighting its structure and activities.
“We are delighted to receive you here, and you have joined Parliament at a time when we still have pending issues such as the enactment of enabling laws concerning the operationalisation of the Kadhi Courts that need to be tabled before the floor of Parliament,” Hadji Muluubya said.

He added that the council looks forward to closer collaboration with legislators for the betterment of the nation in terms of development.
Hon. Ssewangudde, communicating through a sign language interpreter, expressed his profound gratitude after learning that UMSC employs four deaf members of staff. He also thanked the council for including a sign language interpreter who provides simultaneous translation whenever preachers deliver sermons during the Friday (Juma) congregational prayers at the National Mosque.
In addition, Hon. Ssewangudde informed the Secretary General about his offer to sponsor nine Muslims with disabilities to perform Hajj in 2026 through the UMSC Hajj and Umrah Office. He also requested that persons with disabilities be considered as a special category in the State House-sponsored Hajj programme, as benevolently pledged by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Hadji Muluubya responded positively to the proposal.

Present at the meeting were Sheikh Ali Juma Shiwuyu, UMSC Secretary for Hajj and Umrah, Imam Shafii Kagiiko, Secretary for Social Services and Grants, and Haji Isah Shaban from the Halal Office.
