UMSC National Management Team Visits Kasawo Secondary School and Nasejjobe UMEA Primary School

UMSC Reviews School Development and Education Programmes

The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) National Management Committee, led by His Eminence Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, the Deputy Mufti of Uganda, on Tuesday visited Kasawo Secondary School in Kigayaza, Mukono Muslim District, where they also held their weekly management meeting.

The advance team, comprising heads of departments, departed Kampala in the morning under the leadership of the UMSC Secretary General, Hon. Haji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi. He was accompanied by the Deputy Secretary General for Finance and Administration, Hon. Counsel Haji Muhammad Ali Aluma, and the Deputy Secretary General for Planning and Development, Hon. Abdul-Razaq Arinda.

Upon arrival, the delegation was received by the Headteacher, Haji Saleh Mukasa Iga, together with members of staff and students. Also present were the Chairperson of the School Board of Governors, Rtd Maj Haji Abubakar Kalume; the Kadhi of Mukono Muslim District, Sheikh Abbas Zubair Ssenkumba; the Chairperson of the Parents-Teachers Association, Mr. Bumali Nadduli; and other Muslim leaders from the district.

The delegation toured the school’s facilities, inspecting the vocational skills centre where students are trained in producing disinfectants, liquid soap, sanitizers and other products. They also visited the computer laboratory, chemistry and biology laboratories, school gardens and the goat-rearing project.

During the visit, the management team interacted with students, who entertained them with Qur’an recitations and Cultural songs. The students later received motivational messages from Hon. Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi, Hon. Muhammad Ali Aluma and the UMSC Education Secretary, Sheikh Juma Bakhit Cucu.

The speakers encouraged the learners to uphold discipline, remain God-conscious, work hard in their studies and respect their parents and teachers as key ingredients for academic success and personal growth.

Later in the day, the delegation was joined by His Eminence Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, the Deputy Mufti who was accompanied by the Second Deputy Mufti, Dr. Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, and the UMSC Secretary for Religious Affairs, Sheikh Imran Ssali.

The leadership later met members of staff in the staff room, where Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa commended the teachers for their dedication to nurturing learners and promoting peaceful coexistence within the school community. He encouraged them to continue striving for excellence, while the Secretary General applauded the school’s remarkable development.

The National Management Committee subsequently held its weekly meeting, chaired by Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa on behalf of the Mufti of Uganda, His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje.

Before the meeting, the Headteacher, Haji Saleh Mukasa Iga, the Kadhi of Mukono Muslim District, Sheikh Abbas Zubair Ssenkumba, and Sheikh Juma Bakhit Cucu presented reports on the state of the school and general state of education within the district. The committee deliberated on the reports and adopted a number of resolutions and recommendations for follow-up action.

During the meeting, Dr. Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Harunah Bukenya and Prof. Dr. Ziyad Swaleh Lubanga, the UMSC Director of Sharia, pledged to donate copies of the Holy Qur’an to the school and support the construction of a mosque near the girls’ dormitories.

On their return journey to Kampala, the delegation made a stopover at Nasejjobe UMEA Primary School at the request of the Mukono District Kadhi and the school’s Headteacher, Ms. Namubiru Adiya.

The UMSC team was warmly welcomed by the school’s administration, teachers and learners. In her remarks, Ms. Namubiru highlighted the school’s achievements, including increased enrolment and improved infrastructure, while outlining some of the challenges still facing the institution.

On behalf of UMSC, Dr. Sheikh Bukenya pledged to support the construction of a school mosque and to provide copies of the Holy Qur’an together with Yasalna learning materials.

Concluding the visit, Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa encouraged the pupils to remain God-fearing, obedient to their parents and respectful to their teachers, urging them to pursue excellence in both their religious and academic lives.
