The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has taken a major step toward strengthening its human resource systems, with the National Management Committee adopting a revised Human Resource Manual and Retirement Policy.
The development follows a presentation by Hon. Katureebe Yaziidi, the UMSC Head of Administration and Human Resources, who spoke on behalf of a six-member subcommittee constituted to review and verify the 130-page draft document.
Hon. Katureebe addressed members during the committee’s weekly meeting held every Tuesday in the boardroom at the UMSC headquarters in Old Kampala. The session was chaired by His Eminence Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, the Deputy Mufti, in the presence of His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, the Second Deputy Mufti; Hon. Haji Abbas Muluubya, the Secretary General; Hon. Counsel Haji Muhammad Ali Aluma, the Deputy Secretary General in charge of Finance and Administration; as well as other departmental heads.
According to Hon. Katureebe, the document aligns with the UMSC Constitution as amended in 2022 and the UMSC Ten-Year Strategic Plan. He noted that it seeks to harmonise human resource practices with modern standards, incorporate previously missing areas, and address gaps and ambiguities identified in earlier versions.
He also guided members through the review, verification, and validation processes undertaken by the subcommittee to arrive at the final draft.
The draft was unanimously discussed and adopted, and has been forwarded to the relevant organs of the Council for the final stage of approval by the General Assembly, which is expected to sit in the coming weeks.
