His Excellency Prof. Dr. Muhammad Bin Abdu-Karim Al Issa, Secretary General of the Muslim World League (MWL), presided over an international event in Kigali, Rwanda, to honour outstanding Holy Quran memorizers and distinguished personalities dedicated to teaching the Quran. The ceremony, held at the prestigious Radisson Convention Hotel on February 18, 2026, in collaboration with the Rwandan government and Muslim leadership, recognized 70,000 beneficiaries selected on merit worldwide.
From Uganda, His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Haruna Bukenya, 2nd Deputy Mufti and Director-General of Schools at Ubayy bin Ka‘b Islamic Institute & Quran Memorization Centres in Bwebajja, Wakiso District, and Bombo, Luwero, along with his student Hafiz Abdu-Karim Kabito from Bwebajja, were among the recipients. Kabito emerged as the top Quran memorizer for 2024.
On another development, Dr. Sheikh Bukenya is en route to the UK to lead special Taraweeh prayers during Ramadan.
