Eight Muslims Sponsored for Hajj 2026

His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, has commended Brother Abdullahi Hussein Shire, an Executive Director of Gateway Bus Company, for sponsoring eight Muslims to perform Hajj in the Holy City of Makkah in 2026. The beneficiaries include six men and two women who will join millions of Muslims from across the world during the annual pilgrimage at the holy sites in Saudi Arabia.

The Mufti made the remarks on Sunday, May 10, 2026, while addressing a well-attended thanksgiving and farewell function held at the Tororo Muslim District Headquarters. In his sermon, Mufti Mubaje quoted several verses from the Holy Qur’an and sayings of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), emphasizing that Almighty Allah showers blessings and protection upon those who use their wealth responsibly by giving out Zakah to support the less privileged in society.

“Many people have lost wealth due to various natural calamities, while others are witnessing the collapse of their businesses because of greed that hardens the heart and leads one to neglect the obligation of Zakah. Wealth that is devoid of divine blessings cannot prosper,” Mufti Mubaje preached.

The Mufti further advised Muslims who desire prosperity to emulate individuals such as Brother Abdullahi Hussein Shire by consistently giving alms and engaging in virtuous acts that express gratitude to Allah and promote community welfare.

He also implored Muslims to prioritize educating their children in both secular and Islamic religious studies, noting that this is the only way to prepare them to become responsible citizens in the future.

Earlier, several Muslim leaders addressed the congregation, including Sheikh Abdnoor Abdu-Malik Koire, the host Kadhi of Tororo, who delivered welcoming remarks, and Dr. Sheikh Ahmad Hamid Wandega, the Eastern Muslim Regional Assistant to the Mufti, who shared the current state of affairs in the region.

In his remarks, Mr. Shire expressed appreciation to the Mufti for honouring their invitation and joining the community for the occasion.

Among those present were Sheikh Isah Ahmad Masaba, the Kadhi of Bugisu; Sheikh Abdu-Hakim Mugoya, the Kadhi of Sironko; Sheikh Ramadhan Muserengu of Butaleja; and Dr. Bishop Girado Olukoli Director, Alliance of Bishops, Bukedi Region among others.
