His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, has urged Muslims to intensify efforts in teaching their children the Holy Quran, saying it will help them grow up with strong Islamic values and become responsible adults.

The message was delivered on the Mufti’s behalf by his 2nd Deputy, His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, who served as the Chief Guest at the 2nd pass-out ceremony of 31 young Muslims who had memorized the Holy Quran at Huwal Qur’an Islamic Centre in Yumbe, West Nile Region. The event was held on Sunday, February 15, 2026.

Dr. Sheikh Bukenya emphasized to the well-attended congregation that contemporary society presents new ideologies and trends that may mislead Muslims. He urged parents to ensure their children adhere to Islamic teachings, noting that only those who learn and practice the Quran can maintain their faith and identity.

He also highlighted the historical journey of Ugandan Muslims in learning and preserving the Holy Quran, pointing to the role of past generations in maintaining Islamic scholarship and moral values.

The Mufti thanked Muslims of West Nile for maintaining unity, which he said has enabled the community to initiate several development projects in the region. On behalf of the UMSC headquarters, he pledged to sponsor five students on full bursaries and 30 learners on half bursaries at his Primary School in Bombo, Luwero District, and Secondary School in Bwebajja, Entebbe, Wakiso District. The Mufti also committed to providing Iftar meals at major mosques in Arua (two), Koboko (one), and Yumbe (one) during Ramadan.

The ceremony was attended by several Muslim leaders, led by Sheikh Mahdi Raihan, the Regional Assistant to the Mufti, who shared insights on the current state of Muslim affairs in the West Nile region.

After the event, Dr. Sheikh Bukenya visited Arua city for a guided tour of the near-completion Irshad Mosque and its commercial complex, which includes several shops. He engaged with the Muslim faithful during Magreb prayers and shared further insights on Islam, continuing discussions until Isha prayers.
