THE ROLE OF THE SECRETARY GENERAL

Driving UMSC’s Vision and Mission

 As the chief administrative officer of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC),
the Secretary General plays a pivotal role in ensuring the effective implementation of
the organization’s strategic plan and objectives. According to Article 10 of the UMSC Constitution, the Secretary General is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction to the executive and administration of the UMSC.

    The Secretary General is directly answerable to H.E the Mufti for matters pertaining to UMSC management, the Executive Committee for matters relating to the business of the Executive, and the Joint Session and General Assembly on matters relating to their respective domains.

    The Secretary General’s tenure is seven years, with eligibility for re-appointment once, subject to a successful performance appraisal by the Executive Committee and approval by the Joint Session.

    The Secretary General's duties and responsibilities include:

    • Ensuring a robust and up-to-date strategic plan
      to guide UMSC's operations and activities
    • Supervising and overseeing Deputy Secretary
      Generals and other staff
    • Organizing personnel, groups, and projects for
      effective and efficient conduct of UMSC business
    • Providing strategic direction and leadership to the
      executive and administration
    • Ensuring proper financial management and
      transparency
    • Mobilizing resources for the efficient
      implementation of UMSC objectives
    • Initiating and pursuing policies, regulations, and
      procedures for proper management of UMSC
