The UMSC Secretary General Hon. Haji Ramadhan Mugalu has unveiled the Muslim Regional administration structure to Muslims in Uganda and the public at large.
This was during a Press Conference held today in his office at the UMSC Headquarters Old Kampala.
In his statement, Hon. Mugalu said this was in line with a resolution passed by the UMSC General Assembly which sat on 28th and 29th November 2016.
The resolution authorised the formation of 9 Muslim Regions as follows;
- Kampala Muslim Region
- West Buganda Muslim Region
- East Buganda Muslim Region
- Busoga Muslim Region
- Eastern Muslim Region
- Northern Muslim Region
- West Nile Muslim Region
- Ankole – Kigezi Muslim Region
- Tooro – Bunyoro Muslim Region
Once Operational, the Muslim Regional administration will have a Muslim Regional Council which will comprise of a Muslim Regional Joint Committee, Regional Executive Committee, Regional Council of Sheikhs and the Regional Management Committee. Each Muslim region will be headed by a Right Honourable Regional Kadhi and they will follow the UMSC constitution, rules of procedure, protocols and UMSC standing orders issued from time to time.
Honourable Mugalu said the establishment of the 9 Muslim Regional administrations is aimed at bringing services closer to Muslims country wide.
“UMSC seeks to improve service delivery, transparency, social justice, fair processes of work and improvement in management of financial resources”.
Speaking specifically about the status of Kampala Muslim Region, Hon. Mugalu said it will comprise of four Muslim Districts of Nakawa, Lubaga, Makindye and Kawempe. Its operationalization will automatically dissolve Kampala Muslim District and its council as well as organs.
All the Muslim leaders under the formerly Kampala Muslim District will be redeployed by the Office of the Mufti of Uganda effective today 9th February 2018.
On this same day, H.E the Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje has presided over the ceremony of officially introducing the above mentioned arrangements.
