Thousands of Muslims turned up at the UMSC Headquarters Old Kampala yesterday
to welcome His Eminence the Mufti of Zimbabwe Sheikh Ismail Menk ,who is on a ‘Building
Bridges’ tour in Uganda on the invitation of His Eminence the Mufti of Uganda
Shk. Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje.
The renowned Muslim scholar and preacher landed at Entebbe Airport yesterday
Morning where he was received by H.E the Deputy Mufti of Uganda Shk. Abdallah
Semambo and the Secretary General Hon. Ramadhan Mugalu.
On arrival at the National Mosque, Mufti Menk held a meeting with the
UMSC Management committee during which he commended the UMSC administration led
by H.E Shk. Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje for introducing various development projects.
In a joint Press Conference with UMSC, Mufti Menk urged Muslims in
Uganda to strengthen their faith in Islam and do away with hatred and extremism
noting that these are contrary to the teachings of Islam.
While delivering the sermon (Khutubah) for yesterday’s Juma prayers at
the National Mosque, Mufti Menk stressed that Islam is a religion of peace and
unity. He urged Muslims to love one another for the sake of Allah and humanity.
He noted that the tendency of specific individuals using Islam to foster their personal interests should not be attributed to Islam.
He urged Ugandans to be productive, to build their nation and to uphold
strong moral values.
To the Muslim youth, Mufti Menk said;
“Go out and volunteer for a good cause. Use your energy to help those
that need you for the sake of Allah. May Allah grant us the energy to be of service
to those that need it”.
Before Juma prayers Mufti Menk toured UMSC the projects at the Headquarters, which included; Radio Bilal and the Islamic Call University College. He also planted memorial tree in the National Mosque compound.
Tomorrow, all roads lead to Mandela National Stadium at Namboole where Mufti
Menk will address tens of thousands of Ugandans during his maiden building
bridges international lecture.
