The Inter Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) in partnership with the Ministry of Health has urged residents of Wakiso and Kampala to collect Long Lasting Insecticide Treated Nets (LLINs) in the ongoing campaign to kick malaria out of Uganda.
In respect of the above, the IRCU Secretary General Mr. Joshua Kitakule is appealing to all religious leaders in Wakiso and Kampala to mobilize the faithfuls to collect the nets as follows;
Those who registered to get mosquito nets in Wakiso will get them on Saturday 27th January 2018 from the distribution points which were communicated by VHTs/LCI.
Those who have registered in Kampala will get their nets between the last week of February 2018 from the collection points communicated by the VHTs/LCI.
According to Mr. Kitakule, IRCU in partnership with the Ministry of Health are creating champions among religious leaders who will support the distribution of nets in Kampala and Wakiso.
“The will serve as advocates for social change in the communities in order to create a healthy society” Mr. Kitakule noted.
It is on this note that management at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) headquarters Old Kampala is directing the District Kadhis, Twale Sheikhs and Imams in Kampala and Wakiso to mobilize Muslims to register and collect the free LLINs, and protect their families from malaria.
Registration of households in Wakiso District ended in December. In Kampala, registration ends tomorrow Wednesday 17th January 2018.
Muslims are urged to register all members of their respective households when visited by the VHTs wearing T/Shirts with Ministry of Health Logo and name tags.
